Topic: Multifunctional MXene inks enabled printed electronics

Prof. Dr. Chuanfang (John) Zhang is a full professor in Sichuan University. He is the principle investigator of Multifunctional Inks for Printed Electronics group under the generous supports from National Youth Talents program. He completed his PhD program in East China University of Science and Technology (Shanghai, China) and Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA, USA) in 2015 under the joint supervision of Prof. Yury Gogotsi. Later he joined Trinity College Dublin, Ireland as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2015. John joined ETH Empa in 2019 as a senior scientist, leading the efforts on additive manufacturing of printed electronics based on multifunctional two-dimensional crystal inks. He is a member of ACS, MRS and ECS. He serves as a reviewer for many peer-review journals, such as Nature, Nature Comm., Joule, JACS, EES, AM, Angewandte, ACS Nano, AEnM etc. He is the invited corresponding reviewer for ERC grants (starting, consolidate) and German DFG. He has published 75 cutting-edge studies on top journals, including Nature Energy, Nature Communications, Adv. Mater (VIP), Energy Environ. Sci., Adv. Funct. Mater (VIP), ACS Nano, Nano Energy etc. His H-index is 50 with SCI citations >11300. He has given >70 invited talks in universities/major conferences/companies, including Princeton, EPFL, Drexel, Trinity and Huawei, etc. He was shortlisted 2016 and 2018 Lab Scientist of the Year, Lab Staff Member of the Year and Young Leader of the Year (Ireland). He is the recipient of "2019 Top 10 Chinese Leading Talents in Science and Technology in Europe". He has been awarded the 2022 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher, Stanford Top 2% Global Scientists list and 2022 Rising Stars of Science World.

Abstract: Printed electronics are indispensable in our daily life and work. Producing personal printed electronics featuring flexibility and integrity is the trend and require multifunctional inks with property solution processing strategy. In this talk, I will explain the MXene ink synthesis, printing and coating (mechanisms, suitable processing strategies and typical examples), as well as energy-related applications. In particular, I will demonstrate the critical significance of MXene viscous inks in formulating ultrathick battery/supercapacitor electrodes with ultrahigh areal capacity/capacitance, antennas/sensors with very high sensitivity, scalable manufacturing of energy-related and communicating electronics, and so on. As such, I will highlight the great potential of MXene inks toward the next generation electronics via solution processing.
